Wednesday, July 9, at approximately 1 a.m., the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a robbery that had just occurred at a gaming establishment located on Richardson Road off U.S. Highway 175 west near Eustace. A white female and a Hispanic male had reportedly robbed the attendant of the establishment and fled the location with a quantity of cash. Deputies, Investigator Brad Gray and Captain Bryan Tower responded to the location. Investigators were able to obtain a vehicle description and a description of the two suspects.
During the course of the investigation, officers were able to identify the two suspects and the possible suspect vehicle. The suspects were identified as Manuel Herminio Hernandez and Erika Jo Guill out of Gun Barrel City. The suspect vehicle was identified as a white Chrysler Town and Country minivan. This information was disseminated to area law enforcement.
On July 10, at approximately 8 a.m., Sheriff Deputy Jodie Sorrells, during a routine patrol, located the suspect vehicle at an address off Sailfish in the Bonita Point Subdivision. Sheriff Office personnel responded and began surveillance. At approximately 10 a.m., Investigators and command staff responded to the residence in an attempt to apprehend the suspects. Erika Guill was taken into custody without incident inside the residence. Manuel Hernandez jumped through a window in the residence and fled on foot from several pursuing officers. A lengthy search for Hernandez ensued. A perimeter was established and additional resources including the US Marshal’s Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Office of the Inspector General, Gun Barrel City PD and numerous Sheriff Office units responded along with a TDCJ scent dog team.
As the search for Manuel continued, Investigators aided by the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office sought and were granted a search warrant for the premises and the suspect vehicle. The search warrant was signed by 392nd Judicial District Judge Carter Tarrance and authorized the search of the residence and vehicles for evidence of the robbery.
At approximately 2:11 p.m., Sheriff Deputy Pochobradsky advised that he could see a person flailing in the water west of the initial location in the same direction that Hernandez had fled. Chief Deputy Bottie Hillhouse and Captain Bryan Tower made contact with guides from BigCrappie.com, who had recently returned from a fishing trip on Cedar Creek Lake. Hillhouse and Tower were taken out on the water on a guide boat and were able to apprehend Hernandez from the middle Cedar Creek Lake.
Hernandez and Guill were transported to the Henderson County Detention Center. No bonds have been set at this time. Guill is charged with Robbery and Hernandez is charged with evading arrest or detention, robbery, a parole violation warrant, and an outstanding Dallas warrant for the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.
