Obituary: Alfred Barnes

Barnes, AlfredFuneral Services for Alfred Barnes, 84, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Central Baptist Church of Athens with Pastor Charles Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Blackjack Cemetery near Murchison.

Mr. Barnes passed away on July 9, 2014 in Athens, Texas.

Alfred Lynch Barnes was born November 28, 1929 in Sweetwater, Texas the son of James Clifford Barnes and Juanita Mae Lynch Barnes. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Athens. Alfred called Bingo at South Place and Park Highland Nursing and Rehab facilities for years and enjoyed playing 42. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to farm, fish and hunt. Papa was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by all he knew and loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edith Marie Barnes, one son, James Barnes, one daughter, Shirley Sloan and a grandson Brandon Turner.

He is survived by his daughter, Gail Turner and husband Frankie of Athens; two sons, Clifford Barnes and wife Donna of Duncanville, Kenneth Barnes of Dallas; one brother, Daniel Barnes of Houston; one sister, Gracie Stephenson and husband Tom of Garland; nine grandchildren, Billie Turner, Alfred Turner, Stephanie Davis, Feather Williams, Robert Sloan, Daniel Sloan, Kathryn Sloan, James Barnes, Daniel Barnes and twelve great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alfred Turner, Robert Sloan, Daniel Sloan, James Barnes, Daniel Barnes, Seth Thurston, Jarrod Mickens and Tristan Turner.

The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
