TVCC Cardinals first day of contact

The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals held their first full-contact practice Wednesday at Bruce Field in Athens.

The Cardinals are scheduled to kickoff the season 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at home against Nassau Community College in the Battle in the Valley, sponsored by Virtual Communications Specialists President Paul Benson.

Nassau finished last season 10-0 and ranked No. 6 in the nation. The Cardinals finished last season with a 12-0 record and Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) champions. TVCC ended the year ranked No. 2 in the nation.  Continue reading “TVCC Cardinals first day of contact”

Athens ISD meets standard, earns distinctions

The Texas Education Agency released the 2015 public school accountability ratings last Friday. The reports showed the Athens ISD and all its campuses “Met Standard,” which is currently the highest designation available.

Malakoff Elementary School earns all eligible distinctions

The Texas Education Agency released the 2015 public school accountability ratings last week. 

One district that scored very well in the ratings was Malakoff ISD, but even in that district one campus stood out: Malakoff Elementary School.

Boy Scouts schedule open house Aug. 18

Area youth will have an opportunity to join Scouts Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at First Christian Church in Athens during their annual Open House. The Boy Scouts of America offers numerous opportunities for youth to be involved in activities such as camping, hiking, fishing, field trips, and Pinewood Derbies. Crime Stoppers looking for help with Bethel Ash Water burglary

Henderson County Crime Stoppers can use your help in solving a burglary that occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 10, 2015 at the Bethel Ash Water Supply Corporation building located just outside Loop 7 on State Hwy 19 North. Unauthorized entry was made into the shop area of the building and then into the office area.
