The Texas Education Agency released the 2015 public school accountability ratings last week.

One district that scored very well in the ratings was Malakoff ISD, but even in that district one campus stood out: Malakoff Elementary School.

MES basically aced the ratings, earning distinctions in every area eligible.

“I would say that once again the staff and students at Malakoff Elementary never cease to amaze me,” said MES Principal Ronny Snow. “Last year, we had four distinctions and we were eligible for six. This year getting five of five was again a verification of the amazing work this staff has produced over the last eight to 10 years.”

The campus earned distinctions in the following areas:

  • Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA
  • Academic Achievement in Science
  • Top 25 Percent Student Progress
  • Top 25 Percent Closing Performance Gaps
  • Postsecondary Readiness

Snow said only about 5 percent of campuses statewide earned distinctions in every area eligible.

This isn’t the first time Malakoff Elementary has been recognized for excellence. In February, the campus was nominated as a Blue Ribbon School, an honor given to just 26 schools in the state.
