Death by Chocolate! What a Way to Go!

If you have to go, could there be a better way? The Henderson County Performing Arts Center doesn’t think so. In fact, there will be two very special chocolaty ‘deaths’ awaiting those who want to immerse themselves in a total decadence.

The traditional chocolate holiday, St. Valentine’s Day, will be observed at HCPAC with Death by Chocolate, an evening of sweets and songs. The annual event is an opportunity for sweethearts to mix and mingle while listening to romantic torch songs amid an endless array of chocolate confections, including a chocolate fountain.

This event will be held Saturday, February 14th, from 8-9 p.m. for the first seating and 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. for the second. Attendees also have the opportunity to see the last performance of The 39 Steps on the Main Stage of the HCPAC Theatre Complex before going to the Black Box Stage for the after-performance set.

Death by Chocolate will feature HCPAC performers accompanied by Jan Capelle. Reservations may be made by calling 903.675.3908. Cost is $20 per person. Proceeds will benefit the HCPAC YES! (Youth Excellence on Stage) Program.

Also, not to be missed is the HCPAC Annual Spring Fund Raiser, this year presenting Death by Chocolate, a comedy murder mystery at the Athens Country Club on March 20th. The event will include food, entertainment and a cash bar. The evening cost is $50 per person.

Death by Chocolate introduces the audience to Nick Noir, a hard-boiled Private Eye hired to find the murderer of Vinnie the Leech, a customer at the Precious Perks Coffee Shoppe, who happened to be drinking their signature super-duper creamy, rich chocolate mocha latte, appropriately named Death by Chocolate, when he keeled over dead. With plot twists and turns, the audience will have fun trying to figure out whodunit from the cast of zany characters.

Auditions for Death by Chocolate are being held at HCPAC Monday, January 19th and Tuesday, January 20th, from 7:00 – 8:30pm in the Black Box Theatre at the HCPAC Theatre Complex at 400 Gibson Rd., Athens. The cast is made up of three males and seven females between the ages of 20 and 60. Experience is not necessary to audition.

What could be more fun than Death by Chocolate? It’s a sweet way to go!
