ACPA Sound of the Storm Competition

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy’s (ACPA) Sound of the Storm Choir attended the Festival Disney Competition for the second year in a row this Spring Break. The choir spent three days park-hopping Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot. The group performed at Saratoga Springs on March 15 and received a good rating as well as third in their division. The choir’s participation annually prepares them for the TCAL Fine Arts State Competition happening in April.

ACPA Students Rock German Competition

Athens Christian Preparatory students Jake Foster and Zay Ridgle scored high in the State Regional German competition held in Dallas. Jake Foster, a sophomore, placed first in sight reading while Zay Ridgle, a freshman, placed second in Grammar, and third in sight reading. “I am very proud of what these two students have done especially since it is their first competition.” said Brian West the German instructor at ACPA. ACPA placed 12th overall with 21 metroplex schools competing. They will now compete in the State competition held later this month at the University of Texas at Austin. Educators Of The Year Announced

Recently, the winners for the Educator of the Year awards were announced by the East Texas Academic Rodeo. Three winners were chosen, one for each level of education. The Elementary level honor went to Trina McAllister of East Texas Christian Academy, Tyler. The Middle School honor went to Karol Terry of Chapel Hill ISD, Mt. Pleasant. The High School honor went to Casey Kohlman of Athens Christian Preparatory in Athens. Pictured are, from left, Casey Kohlman , Karol Terry, and Trina McAllister.

No Gate Fees For HCLS 2014

Big news on the Henderson County Livestock Show front … there will be no gate fees this year because a few participating businesses have picked up the tab!

This year’s show will be from April 7-12.
