Sheriff, businesses deliver gifts to area seniors

Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse partnered with generous local businesses this year to deliver comfort gifts of blankets, gloves, caps, socks and more to those in nursing home facilities on Monday, Dec. 18.

The Sheriff’s Office went to two places in Athens – South Place Nursing Center and Green Oaks Rehab and Nursing – Monday morning.

Eustace man arrested on arson charge

Henderson County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg was called to a fire at 108 Bonsal Street in Eustace on Saturday, Dec. 2. After an investigation into the cause, it was determined the fire was arson.

Monday, Dec. 4, Renberg obtained an arrest warrant for Jesse Randal Roberts, 23, of Eustace from Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Randy Daniels.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, Roberts was arrested at his residence in Eustace for the first-degree felony charge. Roberts was transported to Henderson County Jail.

Voter registration certificates being mailed out

The Henderson County Elections Administration Office began mailing out the new voter registration certificates this week. New certificates are mailed every two years to all registered voters.

The new certificates are yellow and are valid from Jan. 1, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2019. They replace the blue voter registration certificates, which expire on Dec. 31, 2017.

Voters are encouraged to check the information on their new certificates for accuracy and retain for the upcoming elections.

Corrections, if necessary, may be made on the back of the card, signed and returned to our office.

Any person who has moved, had a name change or been previously registered in Henderson County and does not receive a new voter registration certificate by the end of this month should contact our office.

Voters who are placed on the “suspended list” are subject to having their voter registration cancelled if their records are not updated within two federal general elections.

Geeslin announces re-election bid for Commissioner Pct. 4

Incumbent Republican Henderson County Commissioner Ken Geeslin has announced his candidacy for re-election to the office of Henderson County Precinct 4 Commissioner for another term.

Commissioner Geeslin has served as the Precinct 4 Commissioner since 2011. Since serving, Geeslin has used his extensive business and military background to promote accessibility, accountability, efficiency and productivity in County Government. Unlike many politicians which state they believe in these objectives, Geeslin has delivered on his promise and can be clearly viewed at the Precinct 4 section of the Henderson County Website there Quarterly Active Reports can be reviewed back to 2011 and the State required Annual Road Reports.
