Incumbent Republican Henderson County Commissioner Ken Geeslin has announced his candidacy for re-election to the office of Henderson County Precinct 4 Commissioner for another term.

Commissioner Geeslin has served as the Precinct 4 Commissioner since 2011. Since serving, Geeslin has used his extensive business and military background to promote accessibility, accountability, efficiency and productivity in County Government. Unlike many politicians which state they believe in these objectives, Geeslin has delivered on his promise and can be clearly viewed at the Precinct 4 section of the Henderson County Website there Quarterly Active Reports can be reviewed back to 2011 and the State required Annual Road Reports.

To highlight just a few of these accomplishments:

  • Upgraded Precinct 4 equipment utilizing the Federal Equipment Surplus Program saving hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  • This equipment upgrade has allowed for the Precinct 4 Team to perform major infrastructure upgrades without using third party contractors saving thousands of dollars. These upgrades include thousands of feet of culvert replacements due to years of deterioration, major drainage ditch upgrades and many major road upgrades/rehabilitation. It should be noted that Precinct 4 maintains 31% of the 785 miles of Henderson County Roadways, as stated in the TxDOT County Road inventory.
  • Drafted many of the current Henderson County Policies voted in by the Commissions’ Court that didn’t exist before he took office.
  • Introduced the Precinct 4 “Adopt A Road” program to help keep our County beautiful.
  • Established the first Precinct Recycling Program for Paper, Cans, Plastics, Glass, Oil, Antifreeze and Electronics, of which all is a free service to Precinct 4 residences.
  • Upgraded Precinct 4 Road Signage to be in compliance with the standard sizes for better safety for the traveling public.
  • Served on the Henderson County I.T. Committee through the contract negotiations and implementation for the majority of the County Information Technology upgrades, which saved the County money, time and resources. Examples: Phone System, Website, Judicial Software and several more.
  • Has worked countless hours with the four municipalities in Precinct 4 (Cities of Athens, Poynor, Coffee City & Berryville); additionally, works with County Fair Park, County Library and ESD Boards to assist all of them in accomplishing their objectives for the benefit of the people of Henderson County.

Although Commissioner Geeslin feels he has met many of his goals while being in office, he says there is much more work to be done, as his concerns for the future of Henderson County has never wavered. According to him, the pressure on local governments is constantly increasing while revenues are decreasing and continued efficiency and balanced decision-making is absolutely vital to Henderson County’s future.

His decision-making as commissioner is based on the optimistic concerns he has for his constituent’s in Precinct 4 and all the citizens of Henderson County. He is also dedicated to preserving and growing the county’s business and industry climate. With the increasing burden being placed on taxpayers from overbearing state and federal government, Geeslin feels the continued stability in the commissioners’ office by proven, reliable decision-making is essential and owed to the hard-working people of Henderson County.

With pride in the achievements made over the past seven years, he promises to deliver continued efficiency and productivity if given the opportunity to serve one more term. It would be an honor to continue to serve, as the Commissioner of Precinct 4 and all of Henderson County.
