CCL Chamber Banquet Set For St. Patty’s Day

chamber logoThe 2014 Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet is slated for March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, at Cedar Creek Country Club. This year’s theme is an Irish saying, “Go raibh mile maith agaibh” ~ A thousand thanks! CCLACC President Jo Ann Hanstrom said, “It seems impossible, but the chamber is celebrating its 14th year and the board and staff are ever-grateful for the continued support of all of the members and others in the community who volunteer in thousands of ways to make Cedar Creek Lake a good place to live and do business.”

The chamber banquet is an evening of recognition for volunteers around the area, an annual event that has years of tradition and is filled with anticipation, as the names of the winners of the Lifetime Service Award, Citizen of the Year, Ambassador of the Year and various awards from the chamber chapters are announced during the evening’s program. Mabank ISD Teachers of the Year are also recognized by the Mabank Chapter of CCLACC. There’s still time to submit nominations for the major awards, but the deadline is March 3. The chamber asks that you call or email and request nomination forms for Citizen of the Year or the Jean Nichols Lifetime Service Award. It can be faxed or emailed and can also be picked up at the chamber office. The nominee and the person submitting the nomination don’t have to be chamber members and everyone is invited to participate.

Chamber President Jo Ann Hanstrom said, “I encourage everyone to mark their calendars now and plan to be with us on the special night of the year that we honor the awards recipients. It’s always a wonderful night of celebrating volunteerism in our community, plus we‘re looking forward to saying a great big ‘Thanks!’ to everyone.”

Tickets will go on sale soon and the chamber is asking that tickets be purchased in advance so that they can give an accurate count to the staff of Cedar Creek Country Club. Tickets will be available for $35 each at the chamber office, 604 S. Third St., Ste. E Mabank. Tables of 8 are available by reservation and ticket purchase. No other reserved seats will be available. Call 903.887.3152 or email [email protected] for more information.

GBC Beautification Committee Seeks Recipes for Community Cookbook

cookbook

The Gun Barrel City Beautification Committee is publishing a cookbook, and we are asking the community to help submit a few of their favorite recipes to be featured in the second edition of “What’s Cookin’ Around Cedar Creek Lake.”

Ever wanted to be featured in a cookbook? Well now is your chance. We need your recipes that you enjoy cooking for your family whether they are top secret, award winning or just down right delicious. We want them all to be a part of our second edition cookbook that should be released late this summer. Please keep in mind you do not have to be from the lake area to participate. We would love to feature your friends and families recipes as well no matter where they live.

This year we have set up two ways to submit recipes. We are using the Morris Press Cookbook’s website to easily submit them online. Just go to www.typensave.com and click Login. Next, enter the username: gbcbc and the password: basil676 and click submit. Make sure to add your name and where you are from in the boxes provided, and then type your recipe, and then submit them to us. Several tools are located on the website to help you with the process. If you do not have internet access, our committee can enter them for you by simply stopping by the Gun Barrel City Hall. City Hall has hardcopies of our recipe collection forms, just swing by to pick up the forms, pass them out to friends and family and write down your own recipes and gather them back up and drop them of at the front desk. Make sure to include your name and where you are from on these forms as well. We have set a deadline of May 1 so we can begin the production process soon after. If you need help with the online submission or have any questions please contact Pat Cassady at [email protected]

The cookbook will be completed by the end of the summer and will be available for $20. Proceeds from the book will go to the Beautification Committee here in Gun Barrel City to help fund future projects. The first edition was a huge success, and we anticipate a great demand for our cookbooks. If you are interested in preordering a book please email Pat Cassady at [email protected] with the number of cookbooks you will be purchasing. You can also reserve your cookbook at City Hall by filling out the back of the recipe collection form.

Tylee Henderson was very excited to be inducted by the State Grand Officers. Then the winners of the competitions were announced, and Gun Barrel City was very proud that its own Carrie Currey, who won second place in the Gavel Ceremony.
