According to CCLACC President, Jo Ann Hanstrom, plans are already under way for the 2014 Business Expo. Asked about future plans for the event, Hanstrom said, “With the first Expo behind us, the committee will be able to do a thorough assessment of the event, make adjustments and/or improvements where necessary. I’m excited that we’ll be bringing the Second Annual Cedar Creek Lake Fall Business Expo to the community next October.”

She went on to say that even though the chamber had sponsored such an event some years ago, this is a whole new venue and format, so it was like starting over and will need to rebuild. Having a new venue has greatly benefitted the attending businesses, giving them more room for their displays, trade show banner materials, and other booth marketing entities. Hanstrom said, “I’m pleased that the chamber of commerce was able to reformat our fall fund-raising event and bring a totally business-related venue back to the community.” Continue reading “CCL Area Chamber Business Expo a success”

Walk Like MADD set for this Saturday

walk like madd cover date 2The 2013 Walk Like MADD event is scheduled for Oct. 19 at the Gun Barrel City Pavilion.

The 5K route will travel around the GBC park walking path. The event will also feature guest speakers and displays by survivors.

WALK like MADD is Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s signature walk event. In more than 60 cities around the nation, thousands of people will participate in 5K events to celebrate creating a brighter future without drunk driving and underage drinking.

“It is important work,” said event chairman Jeff Weinstein of Athens. “For almost 30 years, I have devoted my life to helping accident victims recover from their injuries, both physical and emotional. In that time, I have seen many unfortunate events, most of which could have been avoided if not for the carelessness of another.”

There were more than 1,200 DUI deaths in Texas in 2012, which accounted for 40 percent of all traffic deaths in the state for the year.

Once you’ve been charged with a DUI, it’s important to look for a good dwi lawyer to help you deal with the court proceedings and fight the charge. While DUI attorneys can be found easily, it’s important that you shop around for a DUI attorney that meets your needs. Click here if you want to get more DUI expert help.

Starting Your Search for a DUI Attorney. The first thing you need to do is develop a list of possible candidates for your DUI attorney. There can be many places where you get DUI attorney names. For example, newspapers, internet ads, and the telephone book can all be good resources for creating a list in your search for a DUI attorney in your area. You can also check with your state’s Bar Association to get a list of names of DUI attorneys who specialize in DUI law.

It’s also great to get references for a DUI attorney from people you know. While it may be embarrassing to discuss your predicament with others, you’re more likely to get a good referral for a DUI attorney from someone who’s had a good experience in the past.

Finally, if you’ve ever worked with any kind of attorney for other legal situations, you may want to get some possible names for a DUI attorney from him or her. Regardless of where you get your names, it’s important to consult with more than one DUI attorney to decide who to hire.

Consulting With a DUI Attorney Candidate. Before you hire someone to be your DUI attorney, take time to meet with a few different people to discuss your case. You should ask about how many DUI cases he or she has handled, the cost of the DUI attorney fees and other fees, and if he or she is board certified in DUI law.

It’s important that you feel like you have a good report with the DUI attorney that you choose because you’ll be working together a lot. At the same time it’s also important to hire a DUI attorney that can get the job done right.

Beware of DUI attorneys who offer rock bottom prices or make promises about the outcome of your case. No one can predict how your DUI case will turn out – and it’s irresponsible of a DUI attorney to say anything otherwise.

Hiring a DUI Attorney. Once you’ve decided which DUI attorney you’d like to represent you, you’ll probably need to sign a contract. Make sure you read it carefully before you sign. It will outline the DUI attorney fees, but make sure that it includes everything and ask as many questions as you need to.

“It is obvious we need to keep proclaiming the MADD message against drinking and driving,” said Weinstein.

Please help us make a stand against drinking and driving. Check out the Walk Like MADD website to sign up to walk, make a donation, or be a sponsor. It may be cliche, but the life you save may be your own.
