Courthouse Square Construction

Texas Department of Transportation contract construction crews work at night to repair and resurface the square in Athens in these photos taken overnight, June 11-12. This work will continue between 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday-Thursday through the week of June 24, weather permitting. The Athens square is closed to traffic during the work hours. Coaches Playday results

Former Trinity Valley Community College head football coach Jim Owens (left) was presented the 2013 C.O. Phillips Memorial Award Friday, June 7, at the 26th Annual Coaches Playday at Twin Lakes Golf Course. The award is presented each year in memory of former Malakoff Junior High School coach C.O. Phillips, who was an avid golfer and a great ambassador for the game. He died in the summer of 2000. Making the presentation is Benny Rogers, the sports information officer at TVCC, which hosts the tournament each year along with the Athens Daily Review. (COURTESY PHOTO)

June Jam time with the Cain Center and Guitars Etc

This Saturday, June 8, the Cain Center and Guitars Etc are teaming up to bring June Jam, a great music and open mic event on the outdoor stage at the Cain Center. The jam and open mic will kick off at 6:30 p.m.featuring local performers and lots of lively entertainment. This is a completely free event and the community is welcome to come out with lawn chairs, blankets and picnic and enjoy a great evening of music.

All music genres are welcome. Bands are encouraged to attend the event to let others hear their music.
