A chance for ‘Healing Through Grief’

When you are grieving, the world can seem cold and dark and pointless. You might have lost a loved one, or it could even be a cherished pet. Maybe you are heartbroken over all the tragedies that have been happening around the country. Grief is grief. Sometimes, just getting out for a little while with some nice folks who understand can make a world a difference. You or someone you know may have just lost someone they loved and now they must start thinking about organising the best possible send-off for that person. If this is you and you would like to see what services are on offer, you may wish to check out https://riemannfamily.com/ for more information. Don’t worry though, there will be help on offer wherever you live. If you happen to be in a grieving funk, have I got a deal for you! But you’ll have to act quick.

My agency, Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice, is holding a “Healing Through Grief” luncheon next Wednesday. That will be June 5, at noon, at the First Methodist Church, on College Street. David Hennessee will be speaking.

Cedar Lake holds one of these luncheons every quarter. This is a really good group of people, including both our staff people, and other folks who are working on getting their grief healed. There is always a speaker, and every one I’ve heard has been helpful, interesting, and talks long enough, but not too long. Then there is the food — it is always fantastic! Last time we played a game — I think it was a game — at least we wrote something on a piece of paper, and could read it if we wanted to, and it was fun. Then there is always time visit, and maybe meet a new friend. I met some really interesting folks last time.

Since I work for Cedar Lake I get to go, even though I’m not grieving. I wouldn’t miss it. If you need something like this I hope you’ll give it try. We can sit together.

But you need to call by Friday, May 31. They have to know how many to cook for. Call Fran at 903-489-2023 and tell her to save a plate for you. If Fran is not there, leave a message.

I have something else really good to tell you that has to do with Cedar Lake. We’ve hired a super new nurse that everybody knows and loves.

Kay Downey RN will be joining us in just two weeks. Kay has been praying about changing jobs for a while, and a couple of days ago, she felt she heard God tell her to get up and take her resume to us right then. So she did. I wasn’t there, so she just dropped it off, and came home and posted on my Facebook profile page that she would really like a job with us. I wrote back that we would really love to hire her, but we’d have to fire somebody to make a place, and we didn’t have anybody bad to fire.

But I told her, let’s talk, because I wanted to tell her the vision I have for our company and see if I could get her to buy in. She came to see me today, and told me her great desire was to do real nursing with a good company in her own community, taking care of the people she knows and loves. I told her about my vision for the company, and that it does include her, but we just can’t afford another full-time job right now. I asked her if the demands of her present job would allow her to spend a little time learning home health and doing a little part time work until a real job opens up. That won’t be a problem, she said, because she has already resigned her Baylor Hospital job. And she said, because she believes this is where she belongs, she is comfortable working part time for now. Wow.

This woman lives her faith. She is going to be a tremendous gift to Cedar Lake. We’re going to do great things together.

Besides that, she is a lot of fun.
