Obituary: Joyce Sessions Adams

Joyce AdamsServices for Joyce Sessions Adams, 80 of Athens are scheduled for 2:00 P M Friday at Lake Athens Baptist Church with Rev. John Green officiating. Private burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

She was born August 16, 1933 in Murchison to Marvin Oscar and Ella Jo Hopson Sessions. Joyce was a 1950 graduate of Brownsboro High School. She worked for the VA Hospital retiring in 1988 then moving to Ben Wheeler where she was an active member of Edom Baptist Church. Joyce moved to Athens in 2006 and became an active member of Lake Athens Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul J. Adams, son Robert Wayne Smithee, II, sister Iva Nell Eyster and grandson Bryan Bjornson. Continue reading “Obituary: Joyce Sessions Adams”

Obituary: Eddie Green

Eddie GreenA memorial service for Eddie Green, 80 of Murchison is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brooks Taylor officiating.

Mr. Green passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his residence.

He was born May 25, 1934 in Gene to the late Erbie Harris and Katie Bell Young Green. Eddie had been a resident of Murchison 40 years. He was a heavy equipment mechanic and had worked in the Murchison area for the past 15 years. He loved to go hunting. Eddie was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Fay Green, Murchison; sons Billy Green and wife Kelly of Cleburne, Bobby Green and wife Glenna of Athens, Erbie Green and wife Cindy of Tyler; stepdaughter Bessie Hamlin and husband Mike of DeCatur; brother Bobby Ray Green of Wichita Falls; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, stepbrother Vernie Bradshaw and wife Ysleta, Fort Worth, numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary: Vera Baker

Vera BakerFuneral services for Vera Baker, 96, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.

Ms. Baker passed away at her home on July 29, 2014 in Athens, Texas.

Vera Walker Baker was born August 1, 1917, in Dallas, Texas the daughter of Sidney Eugene Walker and Lera Loveless. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Athens and a citizen of Henderson County since the age of 2. Vera retired in 1982 after 20 years with Curtis Mathis as a Quality Control Inspector. She loved the outdoors, operated her tractor, and mowed the property up until 2013. Being an independent person, she continued to run the family ranch after her husband’s death.
