Payne Springs Man Arrested on Murder Charge

On Saturday, Aug. 2, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a death investigation at 7050 Porthville Drive near Payne Springs. Clyde Jason Tennison, who lives at the residence reported finding Deborah Denise Allen deceased inside the residence.

Tennison suggested that the Allen’s death was a suicide. HCSO Sergeant Rose and Deputy Thompson responded to the location where they found Deborah Allen dead inside the residence. HCSO Lieutenant Kendell Wellman arrived on the scene along with HCSO investigators Nick Webb, Cayce Hampton and Texas Ranger Michael Adcock. Henderson County Justice of the Peace Tommy Barnett was called to the scene for an inquest.

During the course of the investigation, evidence suggested that Allen’s death was not consistent with suicide. Investigators learned the Allen was in a relationship with Clyde Tennison and lived in the residence with him. Search warrants for the residence, Tennison’s vehicle and Tennison were prepared and presented to Henderson County District Judge Dan Moore. Search warrants were granted and executed on Saturday. Barnett ordered that Allen’s body be sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

Preliminary autopsy findings revealed that Allen had blunt force trauma, lacerations and stab wounds to her facial and neck areas that were inconsistent with suicide. Investigator Hampton sought and was granted an arrest warrant, issued by 173rd Judicial District Judge Dan Moore.

Tennison was arrested and transported to the Henderson County Detention Center. He was charged with murder and a $1,000,000 bond has been set. Tennison remains in custody. The investigation continues.

Henderson County District Attorney Scott McKee and his staff aided in the investigation.

Uncle Fletch Festival Coming Sept. 20

The tradition is coming back to Athens.

After a long hiatus, the Uncle Fletch Hamburger Festival will return to the Courthouse Square in Athens on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The best, out of the top 50 event venues, has already been booked for the festival and crowds are already thronging to take tickets for the event.

Of course there will be the traditional Hamburger Cook-Off to crown the best burger chef around, but there will also be a burger eating contest, a dine ‘n dash, bobbing for burgers, and a mooing contest.

Man Arrested for Drug Charges, Stolen Truck

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of suspected theft and narcotic activity at a residence off FM 2636 in Malakoff. The HCSO Narcotics Unit and CID Investigators had been conducting surveillance on the residence related to the complaints. On Thursday, July 31, Investigators identified a 2009 white Chevrolet pick-up at the residence that had been reported stolen out of Hunt County. Surveillance continued until the vehicle left the residence in the early morning hours of August 1.

The vehicle was driven to SH 31 and began traveling east bound towards Athens as a number of surveillance units converged. Captain Bryan Tower and Deputy Kyle Pochobradsky initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield and continued eastbound on SH 31 eventually pulling into the Pct. 5 Justice of the Peace parking lot where a black bag was thrown from the vehicle. Girls Shave Heads for Cancer Research

bridgeFour courageous young girls from Larue shaved their heads recently as part of a national fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to battle childhood cancer. Thank you Elizabeth Coats, Bailey and Mary Ficco, and Emma Shepherd for your compassion and your example. All four girls met or exceeded their fundraising goals.
