The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of suspected theft and narcotic activity at a residence off FM 2636 in Malakoff. The HCSO Narcotics Unit and CID Investigators had been conducting surveillance on the residence related to the complaints. On Thursday, July 31, Investigators identified a 2009 white Chevrolet pick-up at the residence that had been reported stolen out of Hunt County. Surveillance continued until the vehicle left the residence in the early morning hours of August 1.
The vehicle was driven to SH 31 and began traveling east bound towards Athens as a number of surveillance units converged. Captain Bryan Tower and Deputy Kyle Pochobradsky initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield and continued eastbound on SH 31 eventually pulling into the Pct. 5 Justice of the Peace parking lot where a black bag was thrown from the vehicle.
A number of HCSO units assisted by a Malakoff Police Department unit stopped the vehicle and contacted that driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Nicholase Andre Houston. Houston was found to have an outstanding felony as well as an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. Houston was taken into custody and provided Investigators with a statement admitting that he threw the black bag from the vehicle. Investigators recovered the black bag and found it to contain a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, narcotic paraphernalia and numerous plastic baggies consistent with those used to package and distribute narcotics. The truck was confirmed as being stolen out of Hunt County and was impounded. Houston was arrested and transported to the Henderson County Detention Center where he was booked in for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 1 > 4g 200g, Tampering With Physical Evidence, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Bonds totaling $50,000 were set on those offenses and the two existing warrants have no authorized bonds.
Following the stop, Investigators conducted a search at the original residence. Additional narcotic paraphernalia was located within the residence along with items commonly used in the commission of thefts. The investigation continues.
