Two Arrested For Copper Wire Theft

On Dec. 10, Patrol Sgt. T. Goodell was dispatched to the railroad tracks at Highway 31W and Loop7 in reference to suspicious activity. Sgt. Goodell was assisted by Investigators John Long and Brad Gray.

Upon arrival Gray and Long were met by Athens Police Officer B. Carlow who advised a caller had called in a suspicious vehicle near the railroad tracks. The truck was stuck in the rocks next to the tracks and was occupied by Jeffery Wheeler, 40, and Rebecca Smith, 21. Prior to the suspicious activity call a Union Pacific Control Station alarm had been activated and a Union Pacific representative was dispatched to the area to investigate. The Union Pacific representative determined that wires had been cut and removed from a control station approx. 3/10 mile west from where the truck was stuck. The control station controls a 20-mile stretch of tracks that signals train whether to proceed or not. GBC Police Make Burglary Arrests

On Dec. 8, between 4:30 and 5 a.m., Gun Barrel City Police Officers Zach Kennedy and Kevin Lewis responded to an alarm at 2503 West Main (Cut Rate Liquor Store) in Gun Barrel City. Upon arrival officers determined that a window in the front of the store had been broken and it appeared that unknown suspects had made entry, however, no one was in or around the store at that time.
Contact was made with an employee of the store who later came to the location and met with officers. An immediate investigation was launched, by Kennedy and Lewis, into the incident. Kennedy canvased the immediate area for suspects and located 17-year-old Efrain Perez and 17-year-old Anthony Malone, both of Gun Barrel City, nearby. Both Malone and Perez were wet and had wads of money on them suspected, by Kennedy, to have come from Cut Rate.

Both Malone and Perez were detained pending further investigation. The Cut Rate employee who was contacted earlier in the investigation arrived and determined that multiple cartons of cigarettes, a case of beer as well as cash money was missing from the store. Kennedy interviewed both Malone and Perez during his investigation, at which time, one of them confessed to the burglary and implicated the other one. Trinidad Man Arrested on Warrants, Drug Charges

On December 5, Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies and deputies from the US Marshal’s Joint Fugitive Task Force served several felony arrest warrants at a residence off of FM 1667, in Trinidad. The arrestee, Mark Davis, had been avoiding apprehension by law enforcement for over two years. While serving the arrest warrants, deputies observed a quantity of marijuana inside the residence. Narcotics Investigator Kendell Wellman was notified and obtained a search warrant for the residence. Upon executing the search warrant marijuana, packaging materials and scales were located. Deputies also seized over $13,500 dollars in U.S. currency and two vehicles from the location.

Mark Davis was transported to the Henderson County Jail where he was charged with seven felony warrants, that included Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Body Armor, Possession of Marijuana over 5 pounds but under 50 pounds, Delivery of Marijuana. Davis was also charged with new offenses including Possession of Marijuana over 2 ounces but under 4 ounces and Tampering/Fabricating with Physical Evidence.

Also assisting in the execution of the warrants was Henderson County Sheriff Ray Nutt, Chief Deputy Botie Hillhouse, Captain Bryan Tower, Lt. David Faught, Deputy Brian Hall and Texas Ranger Michael Adcock.

Davis remains in the Henderson County Detention Center with bonds totaling $92,500 in addition to a non-bondable probation violation.

Sheriff Office Warns of Jury Duty Scam

Sheriff Ray Nutt wants to assure the citizens of Henderson County that the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is NOT calling, and will not call citizens to inform them that they are in contempt of court for not showing up for a jury summons.

There has been a recent increase in complaints to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office of people receiving calls from persons representing themselves as officers of the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s Office Seizes Nearly a Quarter Million Dollars in Meth

On Monday, Dec. 1, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Sheriff’s Office Deputy Keon Mack observed a vehicle parked on the side of FM 315 just north of FM 317 with its hazard lights flashing. Deputy Mack stopped to assist the stranded motorist and made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Jamie Meador. Meador advised Deputy Mack that his driver’s license was suspended. Deputy Mack observed something in Meador’s pants pocket and when asked about it, Meador provided the deputy with a case containing what Meador identified as marijuana as well a small amount of suspected methamphetamine.

A search of Meador yielded approximately two additional ounces of suspected methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 5 pounds of additional suspected methamphetamine in crystalline form.
