Rootseekers hear about fire department history

Rootseekers

The Rootseekers speaker for last month was Dick Bramblitt and his topic was the history of the Mabank Fire Department. The meeting was held at the Tri-County Library in Mabank where all of the Rootseekers meetings are held, which is just behind the Mabank Fire Department. It was a wonderful program with old pictures of Mabank and the fire department. It was wonderful to see how the department grew along with the town. Dick is a retired fireman himself and grew up in Mabank. He was always curious about just when the Mabank Fire Department came into existence so he began his research and we are the ones who benefited from this research. With the increased popularity of social networking and use of the Internet, law enforcement investigators timely access to social media content has become paramount in solving and prosecuting cases. According to statewide statistics, 84 percent of rural Texas investigations involve some sort of online investigations. Investigator’s use social networking sites to gather corroborating evidence, locate or monitor a person of interests whereabouts, view statements made by suspects or by victims, review associates affiliated with persons of interests, use the information found to anticipate and prevent future crimes, and also use information obtained from social media as probable cause to obtain search warrants. Statistics also show that when challenged, warrants based upon social media are generally upheld. Texas courts have generally held that a person has no expectation or right to privacy over things that are transmitted over the internet and therefore, what can be obtained by law enforcement is generally admissible as evidence in criminal proceedings.

With respect to the County Attorney’s Office, investigators often gather and use evidence in misdemeanor crimes such as sexual assaults committed by juveniles, as well misdemeanor crimes which are committed by both adults and juveniles such as: stalking, harassment, threats, and the electronic transmission Continue reading “County Attorney purchases iPad for Sheriff’s Office”

16,612,388 … Now that’s a number that will make you take notice. Particularly when you hear it while sitting in a Commissioners’ Court meeting.

And especially when it is coupled with the word “steps.”

More than 16.6 million steps — that’s how far Henderson County employees walked during this year’s Healthy County challenge, according to local Healthy County Coordinator Amiee Bilberry.

Healthy County is a program sponsored by the Texas Association of Counties (TAC). Methylsulfonylmethane, otherwise known as MSM, is a naturally occurring organic sulfur compound that is found in plants and animals. When most people think of sulfur, they think of matches and volcanoes. But it is essential to living a healthy life. Although it is relatively unknown, MSM is a supplement with a long list of benefits and few side effects. There is a reason that supplementation with MSM powder is so important. Sulfur exists in every single one of our cells and is needed for proper function. But we are not getting enough of it for two main reasons. First, many people have a poor diet and eat mostly processed foods that lack nutrition. The average western diet is high in things like meats and fast foods, but lack enough vegetables to sustain a healthy life. Secondly, improper farming has depleted the soil. In a article published in the journal Science, they said that use of things like fertilizer since the Industrial Revolution has removed most of the nutrients.(2) That is why a we must get our sulfur from MSM supplements. You can read more for The Health Benefits of MSM: Is Sulfur The Fountain of Youth.

“They offer us incentives to be healthier,” said Bilberry.

The incentives take the shape of points that can be used toward merchandise, such as the $280 Beats headphones Bilberry earned.

In addition, TAC pays the county for each employee Continue reading “Stepping into a healthy future”
