CRISD Superintendent Clay Tompkins to step down

After 27 years at Cross Roads ISD as a teacher and administrator, Clay Tompkins will see his last graduation tonight as superintendent.
Tompkins will soon be stepping down as superintendent at CRISD this summer … but he isn’t going very far, at least not right away.
Tompkins has announced his resignation effective at the end of the summer, but he will remain with the school district in an advisory role to help the new superintendent and the school board through the 2013-2014 school year. A chance for ‘Healing Through Grief’
When you are grieving, the world can seem cold and dark and pointless. You might have lost a loved one, or it could even be a cherished pet. Maybe you are heartbroken over all the tragedies that have been happening around the country. Grief is grief. Sometimes, just getting out for a little while with some nice folks who understand can make a world a difference. You or someone you know may have just lost someone they loved and now they must start thinking about organising the best possible send-off for that person. My agency, Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice, is holding a “Healing Through Grief” luncheon next Wednesday. That will be June 5, at noon, at the First Methodist Church, on College Street. David Hennessee will be speaking.
Cedar Lake holds one of these luncheons every quarter. This is a really good group of people, including both our staff people, and other folks who are working on getting their grief healed. There is always a speaker, and every one I’ve heard has been helpful, interesting, and talks long enough, but not too long. Then there is the food — it is always fantastic! City of Athens hosts its first Texas Friendly Hospitality Training

The City of Athens Department of Tourism held its first Texas Friendly Hospitality Training on May 30 at the Athens Partnership Center; the first of a series of trainings that will be held this year for hospitality industry employees.
The Texas Hospitality Training offers essential training for all front-line employees, including front desk staff, hotel staff, guest services, sales managers, gas station attendants, restaurant staff, etc. Excellent customer service is a vital key to the lifeline of all successful businesses as well as the success of the tourism industry here in Athens. For anyone who wants a career in hospitality, they will need to go through the proper channels and take certified course/s to achieve that. There are certificate IV government funded courses available to those who are serious about being part of this ever-expanding industry.

Obituary: Paul DeLoy Clanton Jr.
Funeral services for Paul DeLoy Clanton Jr., 78, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eugene Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Malakoff Cemetery in Malakoff.
Mr. Clanton went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 in Tyler.
Paul DeLoy Clanton Jr. was born July 30, 1934 in Henderson County, the son of Paul DeLoy Clanton Sr. and Mamie Ethel Stogner Clanton. He was devout Christian man who loved teaching Bible study. Paul devoted his entire career to law enforcement, retiring as TLE Captain for the Texas Department of Public Safety and then later serving as Chief Deputy of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
