Repair work gets under way Monday, May 9, on FM 317 at the Athens Fish and Game Lake Dam in Athens, weather permitting. The contractor is Fritcher Construction of Tyler.
FM 317 was shut down and traffic detoured in March 2015 after severe storms caused it to wash out about three miles east of SH 31. Stabilization work was conducted last year as a permanent fix was designed. TxDOT worked with the Corp of Engineers and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to develop plans for permanent repairs to the roadway and dam which will remain closed to through traffic until the project is completed.
Barricades and construction signage are in place for work to start. The contractor expects the repairs to take approximately three months to complete. The cost is $466,216.
