New Trinidad Chief of Police Chris Simmons will soon begin working on City Ordinance violations. Chief Simmons wanted the citizens to be aware of his City Ordinance Violation Procedure. City Ordinance Violation Procedure
Step 1: Initial Contact
A. Property Identification
B. Photographs of violations
C. Issue occupant(s) a notice providing fifteen (15) days to correct violation(s)
D. If rental property, the owner will be notified of violations.
Step 2: Failure to Comply with Written Notice
A. Take a second set of photographs of the property
B. Issue occupant/owner a citation, giving occupant/owner ten (10) days to appear before the Municipal Court
C. If rental property, the owner will be notified of violations.
**Citation may be sent via registered mail, return receipt requested.
Step 3: Failure to Comply with Citation and Court
A. Issue the occupant(s) a written notice providing the occupant(s) seven (7) days to correct the violations
B. If rental property, the owner will be notified of violations.
C. After seven (7) days, meet with City Administrator to schedule an appearance before the City Council to seek abatement of the property
D. After seven (7) days, request a court order removal of inoperable vehicle(s) from the Judge if applicable.
E. Clean the property, with City Council authorization and at the expense of the City. Attach all costs associated with the clean-up to the utility bill of the occupant(s).
**Failure to pay required clean-up costs could result in a Lien being filed against the property, with the City Council approval
