Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said Wednesday one of his deputies arrested a man and charged him with kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault after making a traffic stop early this morning near Coffee City.

James R. Cryer, 40, was taken to the Henderson County Jail where he remains on the felony offense.

Deputy Keon Mack stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The female driver asked Deputy Mack for help.

While investigating the traffic stop Mack was able to intervene in an Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Assault that was occurring.

Hillhouse said, “Deputy Mack did an outstanding job during this investigation, and stopped the crime from going any further.”

“As we are seeing across the country right now, people always need to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings and of people who could present a danger,” Hillhouse said.

“Every crime, tragedy and assault is different, but we all must remain vigilant,” he said. “The truth is there are bad folks out there who we arrest almost every day. So, I am asking everyone to please always use caution and be aware of your surroundings.”
