Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

On Monday, May 9, at approximately 3:47 a.m., Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Sergeant M. Jistel performed a traffic stop on a vehicle on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Athens. While searching the operator of the vehicle, Sergeant Jistel located a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamines, a white powder like substance believed to be cocaine and pills believed to be Xanax. Jose Rico-Gama was arrested and booked into the Henderson County Jail for Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 4g<200g, Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 1g<4G, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 3, <28g.

Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 4g<200g is a first degree felony and punishable from 5 to 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 1g<4g is a second degree felony and punishable from 2 to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 3, <28g is a class A misdemeanor and punishable up to 1 year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine. Jose currently remains in jail – bond has yet to be set.
