In October, eight students from Cross Roads High School joined three hundred (300) FCCLA members and advisors from across Texas at the Omni Dallas Hotel at Park West training in one of the following areas:

  • Stop the Violence- Students Taking on Prevention- a peer to peer outreach initiative empowering young people to recognize, report, and reduce the potential for youth violence;
  • Financial Fitness- teaching others to save for their future and about the frauds that affect families in our country
  • Childhood Obesity- helping fight the epidemic of the overweight population in our state:
  • Civic Engagement- students will learn to make a difference in the civic life of their communities and develop the combination of knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to make a difference they will learn the importance of being engaged in the decision making process in their communities.
  • Teen Safe Driving- Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety- education to help educate teens and their parents about the importance of teen safe driving and the consequences of distracted driving.

Students returned from the training as Peer Educators and were charged with collaborating with local school and community resource people, conducting local action projects and tracking results. Each student will train other students and/or adults in their school districts on one of these topics. Last year, the 325 students attending reached over 38,000 peers in local training seminars. CRHS Speech and Debate Takes Second at Lindale

The Cross Roads High School Speech and Debate team is making history in it’s inaugural season. The team competed at the Lindale Texas Forensics Association Speech and Debate Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 27. The team was crowned second place overall in the Novice Debate Division as they competed against over 500 students representing 33 schools from N – 20 of those schools included large schools classified as 4A-6A. Cross Roads is a 2A school district.

Juniors Luke Carnes and Katie Harris finished the tournament with a second place finish in Cross-Examination Debate after posting a 5-1 record on the day. Some of the schools they defeated along the way included Longview, Lindale, and Richardson Berkner. Moreover, freshmen Julia Harris and Taylor Long finished the tournament with a 3rd place finish in Public Forum Debate.

Cross Roads Speech and Debate Team Competes in Tyler

The Cross Roads Speech and Debate team competed at its inaugural tournament of the year and in school history this past Saturday at the John Tyler High School “Angel” Debate Tournament in Tyler. At the tournament, the Cross Roads Debate team finished in 3rd place overall behind 5A Lindale High School and 4A Mabank High School. There were 19 high schools represented at the tournament including Tyler Lee, John Tyler, Lindale, Carthage, Pine Tree, Royse City, etc. Cross Roads High School was the smallest school represented and the only school that was below the 3A classification. Military News: Dustin Lee Graduates From Basic Training

153025Air Force Airman Dustin C. Lee graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Lee is the son of Brent Lee of Royse City, Texas, and grandson of Judy Munoz of Carlsbad, N.M.

He is a 2012 graduate of Cross Roads High School.
