Trinity Valley Community College press release
The Read Through The Valley (RTTV) book project started four years ago whereby a single book was adopted by the college, and then students were encouraged to read the book and attend various events focused on the book’s plot. The goal was to inspire students to read for pleasure and enhance their experience outside of the classroom.
Many events were held, including a rally in the plaza, book club meetings, video showings, athletic competitions, field trips, food tastings, and art shows. One of the most popular events has been listening to the numerous speakers who were invited to speak on campus.
This year, the RTTV committee decided to change up the protocol a bit, and instead of selecting a book, they selected an intriguing focal topic and have invited a series of speakers to talk about and facilitate a discussion on a particular aspect of the focal topic. An assemblage of stimulating articles, blogs, videos, etc. can be accessed on the RTTV lib guide and read prior to the speaker’s presentation.
The focal topic this year is social media, and the first speaker, Kyle Henderson, will talk on the ethics and the use of social media.
Kyle Henderson will be speaking on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in LRC 110 (in the TVCC Library). The RTTV committee invite all students, faculty, and community members to attend. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
