Police, Fire Department search for possible drowning victim

Athens Police Chief Buddy Hill said officials were searching Thursday night for a possible drowning victim at Coleman Park.

Hill said police received a 9-1-1 call about the possible drowning at 8 p.m.

Hill said a group of older teens were at the pond at Coleman Park when one of them went for a swim. As the swimmer neared the middle, he struggled to stay on the surface. His friends tried to reach him, but he went under and did not come back up.

Hill said the search was under the direction of the Athens Fire Department and a Fire Department rescue boat was on the pond as well as a helicopter, and many first aid professionals with Secourisme et RCR training and more.
