Obituary: John Wayne Coalson

Coalson, john Photo (1)Funeral services for John Wayne Coalson, 75 of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015 at Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Coalson went home to be with the Lord July 23, 2015.

He was born December 2, 1939 in Anderson County to Joe and Icy Coalson. He was Wayne to most and grew up in the Montalba community before joining the United States Army. Wayne proudly served twenty six years before being honorably discharged. After retiring Wayne went to work for Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation. He then retired after 19 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 51 years Shirley Arnold Coalson and daughter Cristin Pongrac Taylor. Continue reading “Obituary: John Wayne Coalson”

Obituary: Elizabeth Williford

Williford, CayenneMrs. Elizabeth Williford passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in Athens, Texas surrounded by her loving family.

Elizabeth Cayenne Williford was born October 2, 1957 in Lubbock, Texas the daughter of Richard Phillip Stout Jr. and Mary Anne Trumpf Stout. She was a member of the Country Chapel in Larue and a dedicated member until her illness. Mammy was a homemaker and truly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in the garden and was an avid animal lover. She spent countless hours quilting and sewing and taking care of her home. AMWA Back To Beginning On Marina Issue

The Athens Municipal Water Authority (AMWA) is going back to square one in its search for someone to run the various components of the Lake Athens Marina.

The AMWA board convened Thursday morning for a special meeting that was scheduled to include discussion on a long-term lease with the Dallas-based company currently running the marina, Lake Star Marina Enterprises, but negotiations with the company broke down Wednesday night.
