Athens City Council to host special budget meeting

Join the City Council on Monday, Aug. 24, for a special budget meeting where they will discuss “Aid to Other Organizations” at 3:30 p.m. located at the Athens Partnership Center (201 W. Corsicana St.). [Change of location in order to accommodate more seating and more parking.]

Regular City Council meeting to follow at 5:30 p.m. at the City Hall Annex (501 North Pinkerton St.).

Also, please help us reach 400 responses by filling out the survey on the City Budget and Cain Center. 

AISD students can get clothing at the Greenhouse

All Athens ISD students in need of clothing are welcome to receive two outfits at the Greenhouse (502 E. College St.) until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. Obituary: Dorothy Faye McNew

McNew, DorothyFuneral services for Dorothy Faye McNew, 82 of Eustace are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Malakoff with Rev. Jody Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Dorothy passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2015 at her home in Eustace.

She was born Nov. 9, 1932 in Dallas to James William and Jessie Moore Fields.

TVCC opens football season with Battle in the Valley

The Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals are scheduled to kickoff the 2015 football season 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at home against Nassau Community College in the Battle in the Valley, sponsored by Virtual Communications Specialists President Paul Benson.

Nassau finished last season 10-0 and ranked No. 6 in the nation. The Cardinals finished last season with a 12-0 record and Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) champions.
