Old hospital to be transferred to the City of Athens

wpid-wpid-city-of-athens-4-color-logo.jpg-150x139.jpegIt looks like it is going to be the city that tears down the old hospital.

The Athens City Council Tuesday evening voted unanimously to allow the current owner of the old Henderson County Memorial Hospital to transfer ownership of the property to the city. Official say the city will then continue the process to demolish the hospital, which should be completed before the end of the year.

Once the old hospital is removed, the land will belong to the City of Athens.

We should have more details about the transaction Wednesday.

The Athens Substandard Building Commission originally issued a demolition order for the building in June.

TVEC grant given to Historical Museum

Henderson Co. Historical Society

The TVEC Charitable Foundation recently awarded a $2,000 grant to the Henderson County Historical Museum. The 1896 museum, located in downtown Athens, houses artifacts from the Henderson County area. The artifacts demonstrates what life was like in the early days of the county.

The TVEC Charitable Foundation is funded by donations from Operation Round Up. Operation Round Up is a voluntary program that allows TVEC members to round up their monthly electric bills to the next whole dollar amount. The portion that is rounded up goes to the TVEC Charitable Foundation and may be used to award grant requests to local charitable organizations.
