Obituary: Valerie Lilly

Funeral Services for Valerie Lilly of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Athens with Pastor Seth Davidson officiating. A private family graveside will be held at the DFW National Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Valerie Lilly went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 17, 2018 in Athens.

Valerie Yvonne Lilly was born September 8, 1929 in Mhow, India the daughter of Cecil Eugene Macdonald and Aileen Melinda Henegan MacDonald. She graduated from the University of London with a Bachelors Degree in music. Valerie always had an admiration for music, loved mentoring students and one of her greatest passions was teaching piano. Valerie, alongside her husband Edwin who was serving in the United States Air Force lived in Minneapolis, Colorado Springs, England, Wichita Falls, Alamogordo and Amarillo. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Athens and very active in her church. She was also a member of the Cardinals Friends of Music at TVCC and Athens Kiwanis Club. Valerie was so proud of Kevin and Jeaneane and truly enjoyed being a member of the McFamily. She loved spending time with her family at the lake and will be greatly missed by many family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin Lilly and one sister Daphne Walker.

Valerie is survived by her son and daughter in law Kevin and Jeaneane Lilly of Athens; two sisters, Pam and husband Reto Veraguth of Geneva, Switzerland, Sheila and husband John Allen of London, England; one niece Melody Pavey of Barcelona, Spain; three grandchildren, Melody and husband Chad Briggs of Houston, Marisa and husband Chris Phillips of Austin, Marc and wife Heather Lilly of Plano and nine great grandchildren, Hailey and husband Nathan Wright, Hunter Teague, Cutter Briggs, Kenzie Briggs, Marin Phillips, Keane Phillips, Mariah Lilly, Austin Lilly and Madison Lilly.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 20, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m.

In lieu of Flowers the family would like donations made in her name to the Next Generation Fund at: St. John Lutheran Church, 451 Lila Lane, Athens, Texas 75751.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
