Funeral services for Tony Tillman, 81, of Larue are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at New York Baptist Church in the New York Community with Robert Dodson officiating. Interment will follow at New York Cemetery.
Mr. Tillman passed away on December 17, 2014 in Athens, Texas.
Tony Lavern Tillman was born January 14, 1933 in Duke, Oklahoma the son of Crawford Lincoln Tillman and Winnie Bickley Tillman. He joined the Air Force in January of 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He then began his career as an aircraft mechanic with Braniff Airlines for 27 years before retiring with U.S. Air after many years of dedicated service. He enjoyed farming, gardening, grafting and was a master mechanic. He most recently attended New York Baptist Church and loved to study the Bible. Tony was a dedicated family man, loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all he knew and loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sue Newsome and Barbara Stokley.
He is survived by his wife Jean Penny Tillman of Larue; two sons, Michael Tillman and wife Joy of Irving, Jeffery Tillman and Lisa DeForrest of Larue; three sisters, Anna Bell Tillman of Athens, Doris Roden of Garland, Glenda Tillman Penny of Larue; one brother Dwight Tillman of Larue and three grandchildren, Samantha Joy Tillman, Amanda Hope Tillman both of Irving and Rachel Jean Nicole Tillman of Larue.
The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made in Mr. Tillman’s memory to: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
