Mrs. Duncan, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend went to be with her Creator Feb. 5, 2014 in Grand Saline.
She was born Sept. 17, 1929 in Rockdale to Dudley and Lena Currey. She graduated from Rockdale High School then moving with her parents to Cross Roads. She attended Trinity Valley Community College and was a member of their first graduating class. Norma married Lionel Duncan in August of 1948. They shared 60 years together. Her professional career spanned more than 40 years of being a secretary for several different companies. While Lionel was a student at Sam Houston, Norma worked as a secretary at the state prison. While living in Cayuga, she worked for Tidewater Oil, then Cayuga High School. She retired from Nipak Fertilizer. Norma’s love for the Lord and Christian values were evident in every aspect of her life. Her life and family were living proof of the Lord’s blessing. She was a member of Judson Baptist Church in Cayuga for many years. After Norma and Lionel decided to make their home on Cedar Creek Lake, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Malakoff. She taught Sunday school in the children’s department and was a member of the choir. Norma will be remembered for her beautiful voice, singing at numerous weddings and special events. Norma’s and Lionel’s favorite activity was traveling in their motorhome. There weren’t many places in the United States that they didn’t visit.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law Donna and Connie Tomlin, son and daughter in law Scott and Kathy Duncan, five grandsons, Chris and Lauren Tomlin, Ryan and Brandy Tomlin, Cory and Holly Tomlin, Jonathan Duncan and Jeffrey Duncan, six great grandchildren, Cayden, Jackson, Reagan, Emma, Will and Ashlyn, one devoted sister Rita Chapman. She leaves behind her brothers and sisters in law with whom she enjoyed many family get togethers, Weldon and Jean Duncan, Pat and Patsy Duncan, Gary and LaDonna Duncan and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to recognize one special lady who is not only kin, but one of the most loving and caring persons we know, Thelma Ann Griffin. Norma was blessed almost every weekend by Thelma’s visits. They did manicures, looked at pictures, had sweet conversation and read all the issues of Better Homes and Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Duncan, Chris Tomlin, Cory Tomlin, Ryan Tomlin, Daryl Duncan and Tommy Sellers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Allman and Robert McLain.
Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 P M Friday at the funeral home.
