Obituary: Mary Lou Harvey Christopher

MaryServices for Mary Lou Harvey Christopher, 94 of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Faulk Landrum officiating. Services are under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Christopher passed away November 16, 2014 in Athens.

She was born February 23, 1920 in Van Zandt County to Claude Culberson and Hassie Izetta Irwin Adrian. Mary Lou was a 1936 honor graduate of Athens High School. She earned a degree in education from Lon Morris Junior College in 1938. She married George Harvey in 1977 and lived in Dallas. Mary Lou then moved back to Athens where she served a 17 year tenure as case worker for the Department of Human Resources. She had been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1955 as well as a member of the Literary Club, Womens Club, UM Women, TLC Prayer Group and Christian Workers Sunday School Class.

She is preceded in death by her first husband George A. Harvey and second husband Leon D. Christopher.

Survivors include her niece Anita Page of Lawton, Oklahoma; nephew Buck Adair Adrian and wife Pamela of Olathe, Kansas; cousins Guy G. Blair and Larry Potter, both of Tempe, Arizona; great nieces Michelle Matthey and husband Bill of Elgin, Oklahoma; great nephews A. J. Adrian and wife Angela of Gardner, Kansas, Justin Adrian and companion Randall Schneck of Merriam, Kansas; great great nieces and nephews Breeanna Matthey and Quinn Matthey of Elgin, Oklahoma, Ashton Adrian and Aliyah Adrian of Gardner, Kansas.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Mitchell, Bobby Bankhead, Jack Holland, Frank Roupe, Jim Tom Meredith, Jack Meredith, David Holdredge, John Scarbourgh.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Christian Workers Sunday School Class.

Visitation for family and friends will be 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
