Funeral services for L. C. Smith will be Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church in Malakoff.

Viewing for friends and family will be at Johnson Chapel AME Church from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013.

L.C. Smith was the second son of Larkin Smith, Sr., and Carrie Barron Smith. He was born Oct. 31, 1914 in Henderson County.

He attended school in Malakoff for the first year and started the second grade at Lockland Community School. He graduated the eighth grade.

He accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Johnson Chapel AME Church in Malakoff. With over 60-plus years of service to Johnson Chapel, Bro. Smith was faithful to his duties as Sunday School Supt., Sunday School Teacher, Steward Pro-Tem, Class Leader, District Steward, District Trustee, etc.

For a few years, he was a farmer. In the year 1945, he was employed with the Malakoff Truck and Body Builders. This company built truck beds and customized trailers. In 1972, the new owner Frank Lunceford stated to the local press, “L. C. Smith was the sole employee, having worked for the company since 1945 and probably holds a world record for building cattle racks.”

Bro. Smith was a member of the Henderson County Feeder Pig Association and City of Malakoff Planning & Zoning Commission.

He was married to Roberta Trimble Smith for 58 years. To this union three children were born. His wife passed away Jan. 11, 1994.

He was the Worshipful Master for the Star Light Lodge #179; U. M. W. Scottish Rite Grand Lodge, AF & AM of Texas, Inc., in Malakoff.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, granddaughter, son-in-law, seven brothers, and two sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memories his son, Elcril (Ollie) Smith; daughter, Evangelist Alma Jewel Berry; son-in-law, Robert S. Mitchell; grandchildren, Delanda (Ronald) Johnson, Anthony (Sharryl) Mitchell, Rev. Kalvin (Doris) Townsend; adopted granddaughter Cydnei Wells; great-grandchildren, Anthony Quinn Mitchell, II; Shelbi Mitchell, Ivan Mitchell, and Kevin Townsend.
