Obituary: Gerald Marshall Sr.

Marshall, GeralA celebration of the life of Gerald Marshall Sr., 67, of Athens, Texas is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Dennis officiating.

Mr. Marshall went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2014 in Athens, Texas.

Gerald Marshall Sr. was born on June 6, 1947 in Los Angeles, California the son of Henry Marshall and Lillie Mae Howard Marshall. He was the sixth child born a twin. He attended school in Los Angeles until the family moved to Dallas where he attended Booker T. Washington and Roosevelt High. He met and Married Diann Morgan and to this union three children were born. He was a true Californian, as he moved his family back to California twice until he became ill in Moreno Valley, California in 1998 and made his final move back to Texas in 2000 where he lived in Athens until his passing. He was a diverse craftsman who took pride in his work. His skills included many talents and he used these talents to help many. He became a member of Bibleway Family Baptist Church and was an active member until he became too ill to attend, but his heart was truly with God. When he surrendered to God he became a dedicated Christian to the end.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, three sisters, one of which was his twin Geraldine and one brother.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 49 years, Diann Marshall of Athens; four children, Carlene Roberts of Athens, Gerald Marshall Jr. and wife Jacquelyn of Athens, Derald Marshall and wife Sonja of Carrollton; adopted grandson Kevon J. Marshall of Irving; thirteen grandchildren, Whitney and Brittany Blanton, Brandon and Chelci Peyrefitte, Cynai and Casey Wilson, Avanti and Josiah Roberts, Christopher, Cameron and Jaylin Marshall, Jordan Paige and Tyler Marshall; two step grandchildren, Justice and Jordyn Johnson; two great grandchildren Jaeda Hill, Kierstyn A. Peyrefitte; six sisters, Jacquelyn Smith of California, Anita Platter of Detroit, Michigan, Lidell Espy of Nevada, Tanya Innis of Nevada, Stephanie Gray of California, Sandra Gray of California; two brothers, Michael Marshall of Dallas, Howard Marshall of Dallas; one step brother Marcus Marshall of Dallas; extended family in Dallas, Samuel Morgan, Myra Banks, Hollis Morgan, Alvita White, Juanita and Gary Kirby, Kathy Tillman and special sister in law Darlene Morgan and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Marshall Jr., Derald Marshall, Kevon Marshall, Brandon Peyrefitte and Christopher Marshall.
