Obituary: Evelyn Thoes

Funeral services for Evelyn Thoes of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma.

Evelyn Thoes passed on March 19, 2018 in Tyler, Texas.

Evelyn Jean Johnson Thoes was born January 9, 1933 in Morris, Oklahoma the daughter of Charles W. Johnson and Stella Mae Copeland Johnson. She was a Methodist and enjoyed genealogy, photography and especially quilting. She was a member of the Quilters Guild of East Texas in Tyler and the Pea Pickers Square Dance Club, where she got to dance and travel with her love Ed for many years. Evelyn was passionate about her family. She loved to photograph family events, send cards and pictures, preserved family recipes, and created a quilt for each of her family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles W Johnson, Stella Mae Copeland Johnson, and her brother Charles Johnson Jr.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband Edward Thoes of Athens; two children, Dana Gonzalez of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dewey Thoes (Beverly) of Dallas; four grandchildren, Patricia Clark (Traig), Victor Gonzalez (Nicole), Erin Bankersen (Kevin), Emily Thoes and two great grandchildren, Traig Clark Jr. and Trevor Clark.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 9-10 a.m.
