Obituary: Dorothy L. McGee

Funeral services for Dorothy L. McGee, 75, of Montalba are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Olin Boles officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.

Mrs. McGee went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 13, 2017 in Athens.

Dorothy Nell Loper McGee was born July 31, 1941 in Lyford, Texas the daughter of Robert Loper and Naomi Roper Loper. Dorothy married the love of her life, Richard Keith McGee on January 6, 1961. She joined ETMC of Athens as a Medical Staff Coordinator and served there for many years before retiring to her home in Montalba. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Athens, loved to sew, spent countless hours making her own clothes and enjoyed watching old Westerns. Her true love was spending time with her love Keith, her children and Meme especially loved her grandchildren. Grammy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to many. God blessed her family with the most loving wife and mother anyone could ask for.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Michelle Lanae McGee; her sister Wanda Hester and her dear aunt and Uncle Flora Dell and Basil Price.

She is survived by her loving husband of over 56 years Keith McGee of Montalba; three daughters, Tammy Poole and husband Jerry of Lafayette, Louisiana, Brenda Nieman and husband Mike of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Debbie Campbell and husband Tommy of Springtown, Texas; grandchildren, Chase Campbell and wife Candice, Heather Kibodeaux and husband Jesse, Bryant Poole, Christy Swan and husband Joey, Seth Nieman, Ethan Nieman and great-grandchildren, Caleb Campbell, Cayden Campbell, Elijah Kibodeaux and Brayson Swan

Pallbearers will be Seth Nieman, Ethan Nieman, Joey Swan, Tommy Campbell, Chase Campbell, Mike Nieman and Ken McGee. Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Campbell, Cayden Campbell, Brayson Swan and Bryant Poole.

Visitation will be held before the service from 1-2:30 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
