Obituary: Danny Ray Petty

Funeral services for Danny Ray Petty, 62, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Sand Springs Baptist Church in Athens with Bro. Erick Graham officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Eureka Cemetery near Mildred, Texas under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Danny Ray Petty gained his heavenly wings and went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2017.

He was born in Corsicana, Texas to Emmett Petty and Nettie Moseley Petty on January 19, 1955.

He graduated from Mildred High School in 1973 and went to work for Big Brown as a welder. In 1984, he went to work for Buck Johnston, where his passion for buying and selling cars began and later opened his own used car lot, Circle P Auto Sales, initially he worked for Autozin Used Car Agency. In 2003, he married the love of his life, “Ms. Christie”, as he called her. They moved to Murchison and purchased Ride and Drive Auto Sales. Danny became a member of Sand Springs Baptist Church and loved the Lord with all his heart. One of Danny’s favorite passions was riding and training horses and also teaching others to ride. He dearly loved all his grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them life lessons, taking them on outdoor adventures and telling them wild tales.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emmett Earl “Jelly” Petty; his mother, Nettie Sue Petty; brothers, James Wade and Harold Wayne Petty; daughter-in-law, Lelanie Petty; grandson, Gage Hayden Petty.

He is survived by his wife, Christie Petty of Athens; his children, Kevin Petty and wife Tracy, Wade Petty, Steve Petty, Jourdan Lathem and husband Thomas, Hayden Hargrave and wife Emily; siblings, Jeniece Stewart and husband Clyde, Alpha Earl Brewer and husband Ronnie, Jenny Garrett and husband Tom, JoAnn Carico and husband Joel; Grandchildren, Zane, Tatum and Reagan Petty, Jake Petty, Carter, Cooper and Callahan Hayes, Harper, Kate and Lane Hargrave (and another on the way); Many other extended family members and friends; His favorite horse, Willie and good dog Max.

Visitation will be Monday, October 23, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral home in Athens.
