Funeral services for Billy Carroll, 87, of Athens, Texas are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas with Bro. Larry Fondren and Bro. Tommy Weems officiating.
Mr. Carroll passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in Athens, Texas.
Curtis Victor Carroll, better known as “Billy” was born September 16, 1927 in Henderson County, Texas the son of George Marion Carroll and Beulah Ann Williams Carroll. Billy was the youngest of seven children and worked on the family farm until he was 18 years old. He attended school in the Oakland Community, Athens and eventually graduated from Athens High. He then married JoRene Anding in 1949 and retired after a long career in the Freight Industry in 1982. He loved travelling in his RV and spending time with his family. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and was a master gardener who loved sharing the fruits of his labor with many. Papaw worked hard his entire life and will be remembered as a great family man. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all he knew and loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years JoRene Anding Carroll of Athens; his two children, Barbara Lynn Carroll of Houston, Curtis Wayne Carroll of Chandler; three grandchildren, Amanda Jo Luna and husband J.P., Brooke Williams, Amy Sanders and two great grandsons, Jonathan Luna and Andrew Curtis Luna.
Serving as pallbearers will Bill Newbill, Gary Steddum, Steven Ward, Glenn Roy Leopard, Doug Perkins and Robert Clary.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, Texas.
