Obituary: Agatha Warren

Warren AgathaFuneral services for Agatha Warren, 79, of Athens were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Bro. Waymond Warren officiating. Interment followed at New York Cemetery.

Ms. Warren passed away on December 5, 2014 in Tyler, Texas after a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Agatha Faia Adams Warren was born February 3, 1935 in Keatchie, Louisiana the daughter of William Ernest Adams and Lucy Grace Hassell Adams. She married Glenn Reagin Warren and moved to Texas where she put herself through college while raising five children. She attended Henderson County Junior College and graduated Cum Laude with a Masters of Education from East Texas State University. She then began her teaching career of 27 years, teaching school in Brownsboro and Athens. After retirement she enjoyed reading, tending her flowers, working crossword puzzles and playing with her great grandchildren. For many years she taught Sunday school and played piano at the Virginia Hill Baptist Church. Agatha later became a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens and also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Red Hat Society, Delta Kappa Gamma and a Sponsor of the Pilot Club of Athens. She loved to travel, vacationing in England, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Greece and its many Islands.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her loving children, Kathleen Brown and husband Bill of Palestine, Cecile Richardson and husband Frank of Tyler, Raye Anne Cox and husband Richard of Celina, Ernest Warren of Athens, Glenn Wayne Warren and Mona Delacerda of Athens; one sister Phyllis Smith of Shreveport, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Kristin Ryal and husband Jonathan, Eric Warren, Jonathan Kelly, Jamie Gillespy and husband Brandon, Adam Warren and wife Amber, Amanda Patterson and husband Tyler and eight great grandchildren, Bailey Warren, Abigail Warren, Ryleigh Gillespy, Jackson Ryal, Reagan Warren, Reagan Ryal, Reese Gillespy and McKinley Ryal.

Serving as Pallbearers were Eric Warren, Jonathan Kelly, Adam Warren, Brandon Gillespy, Jonathan Ryal and Tyler Patterson. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Cox, Frank Richardson and Bill Brown.

The family visited with friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
