Renda Garner, the distance learning director at TVCC, was sworn in Monday night as an Athens ISD School Board trustee, Place 6. Garner replaces David Freeman, who chose not to seek re-election having served as a board member for 15 years.
“Every issue we’ve ever had as a board, you’ve found some angle to address it we hadn’t thought of,” said Board President Rob Risko. “Your wit and wisdom will be missed.”
“I know the school district is going to go far,” said Freeman. “You’ve got a good leader and a good board.”
Also re-elected to additional three-year terms with no opposition were Eric Smith, Place 5, and Bob Spears, Place 7. Spears has served 15 years as a trustee, and Smith has served seven years non-consecutively.
