CROSS ROADS — Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse led a multi-agency manhunt that included United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Texas Rangers, a Department of Public Safety helicopter, his deputies, a mounted patrol and dogs from Texas Department of Criminal Justice that arrested a wanted fugitive Friday morning near this small town in the southwestern part of the county.
James Curtis Thompson, 46, has a history of violence that included a Federal Probation Violation original charge of homicide and aggravated assault charges out of Marion County. He is now in the Henderson County Jail.
Friday morning Henderson County Constable Precinct #5 Brad Miers called Hillhouse’s Office for assistance while attempting to arrest Thompson at a residence. Thompson had eluded Constable Miers the previous night. The Constable was confronted by a group of people and the suspect fled.
Hillhouse – along with assistance from Navarro Sheriff Elmer Tanner, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, Texas Rangers, members of the United States Marshal Fugitive Task Force, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Canine Unit, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice mounted patrol began searching for Thompson.
The manhunt began Friday at 8 a.m. and ended two hours later, after the officers set up a perimeter and searched pastures, fields and wooded areas, through fences and along rural roads.
Hillhouse called for the DPS helicopter, mounted patrols and dogs from Texas Department of Criminal Justice Division after he arrived at the home.
By 10 a.m., the suspect was found hiding in heavy brush near County Road 1309 in the Cross Roads area of Henderson County by Henderson County Sheriff’s Office personnel and United States Marshals.
