Henderson County Arts Council Looks For Board Members

Arts councilPress release

Henderson County Arts Council Vice-President Dr. Marylyn Wright is heading a committee to search for four new board members designated from the eastern and western sides of Henderson County.

Eastern Henderson County is comprised of areas around Murchison, Larue, Poyner, Brownsboro, and Chandler. The western side would include areas in or surrounding the cities of Trinidad, Malakoff, Tool, Seven Points, Gun Barrel City, Mabank, and Eustace. Present HCAC board members include representation of the central part (Athens) and only a few from the west.

The guidelines for the new HCAC board members are persons who:

  • Live or conduct business in the eastern or western sides of Henderson County.
  • Desire to support the arts in Henderson County.
  • Have a practical knowledge of financial and organizational skills.
  • Have established relationships within their community.
  • Are available to serve in a monthly meeting with HCAC on the second Thursday of each month at 11:30 (presently meeting at the Henderson County Library in Athens).

Wright, former faculty member at TVCC and now owner of MW Music Studio in Athens, said, “Anyone may help this group equalize the representation of our county by nominating someone or volunteering to serve. The arts are vital to Henderson County. Let us get some additional people on our board where everyone should be represented, and let us all help keep the arts alive in our county.”

The Henderson County Arts Council is an established non-profit organization designed to support the arts in Henderson County through sponsoring artistic programs, developing community awareness of the arts and providing encouragement and assistance to the local artistic talent.
