In 2015, the World Health Organization reported that 1.8 billion people get their drinking water from contaminated sources. The World Economic Forum ranked water scarcity as the 8th most likely global crisis to occur and the Number 1 crisis in terms of impact felt around the world. In other words, water security is an important issue that none of us should ignore. Hope Springs Water, founded right here in Athens, Texas, understands this. They are on a mission to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education to the most vulnerable parts of the world where it is needed the most, and they want you to join them!

Hope Springs Water is inviting all area golfers, businesses and organizations to participate in their 4th annual GolfWELL benefit tournament on Friday, Oct. 2, at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Canton.

This year’s tournament is sponsored by Whataburger and Hablinski Investments, and because of their generous support, all the proceeds from the player fees and 100 percent of our corporate sponsorship dollars will support Hope Springs Water’s drilling and sanitation programs in Ethiopia, Belize and Nicaragua.

All participants will receive a certificate for a free golf club and a Golfsmith coupon, as well as an opportunity to win door prizes donated by many local businesses and a 7-day Hawaiian golf vacation for two! The tournament begins at 9 a.m. and lunch will be provided.
