DAR Good Citizen Award

IMG_0133Heather Bayless won the Good Citizen Award for her essay that was titled “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving it.”

Heather won first place from the Mabank High School. She was awarded $50 and a DAR Certificate and DAR Pin and flag from Nell Alspaw who is a member of the Sarah Maples Chapter of DAR. Heather is National Honor Society President, DECA President and is a member of Beta Club. She tutors elementary students at the local library. She was a Texas Bluebonnet girls state citizen runner up and Federal Senate Whip. She runs varsity cross country and was 2nd in District and a regional qualifier and newcomer of the year award in 2012 and also plays varsity tennis.

Heather is the organizer of the tea club. This is a club that teaches students often forgotten common sense manners (such as please/thank you, excuse me/may I, etc.) These etiquettes will get them farther in life by simply knowing and doing (thank you notes , where silverware is placed on the table). All good manners make impressions on others. The clubs activities take place over hot tea as students gather to make friends with one another. Heather plans to attend a private, Christian-Affiliated college and participate in their honors college with a double major in English and Biology. After finishing here she plans to continue on to professional school to receive a doctorate of Medicine.

Heather’s essay on Our American Heritage is just as impressive as all her plans for her schooling. I’m sure her grandmother Terry would agree. We wish her all the best and if she sticks to her plans she will accomplish all her dreams.
