Trinity Valley Community College has a huge weekend of activities planned as its welcomes back alumni for Homecoming 2013.
Homecoming will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 19, when the Cardinals (5-2), ranked No. 17 in the nation, host third-ranked and undefeated Tyler Junior College (7-0). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Bruce Field in Athens.
The annual Homecoming pep rally and carnival will be held Friday evening in the Administration Building parking lot. The carnival, which will include bounce houses, music and games, will begin at4 p.m. The pep rally is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Saturday’s festivities will begin with the induction of the sixth class of the Cardinal Hall of Fame at 11 a.m. in the Student Union Building Ballroom. Tickets are $10 at the door. This year’s class consists of Carl Andress, the longest-tenured head football coach in the college’s history; LaKiste Barkus, a Lady Cardinal basketball All-American; Carlton Booe, a running back who led the football team to the 1997 national championship; Lady Cardinal basketball standout Angela Ortega, who is now the Director of Women’s Basketball Operations at the University of Texas; Fabian Stegall, an offensive lineman who helped the football team win the 1994 national title; and Scott Williams, an All-America selection at quarterback in the mid-1980s.
Homecoming coronation ceremonies will begin at 2:40 p.m. Finalists for 2013 Homecoming Queen are:
– Kensarah Lockhart, a 20-year-old sophomore representing Student Government. Kensarah is the daughter of Nathaniel Gross Sr. and Yolanda Lockhart-Gross and a graduate of Waller High School.
– Shannon Lynch, an 18-year-old freshman representing Fine Arts. Shannon is the daughter of Eric and Robin Kroner and a graduate of Mesquite High School.
– Albanee Martin, a 20-year-old freshman representing West Hall. Albanee is the daughter of Ron and Chantel Martin and a graduate of Scurry-Rosser High School.
Finalists for 2013 Homecoming King are:
– Evin Basher, a 20-year-old sophomore representing Student Government. Evin is the son of Ronny Basher and Lisa Blakemore and a graduate of South Grand Prairie High School.
– Willie Hadnot, a 19-year-old sophomore representing Fine Arts/Music. Willie is the son of Willie and Norma Hadnot and a graduate of Athens High School.
– Tre’ Prosper, a 21-year-old sophomore representing the TVCC Cardettes. Tre’ is the son of Pam Prosper and a graduate of Athens High School.
