Thursday’s regular meeting of the Athens ISD board of trustees saw a changing of the guard as outgoing board member Ginger Kirk stepped down after nine years of service. Incoming board member Jennie Mahmoud, having run unopposed in the spring, was sworn in to replace Kirk. Mahmoud previously served on the board from 2004 to 2011.

“It’s been an honor to serve all these years,” said Kirk. “We haven’t always seen eye to eye on everything, but variety is the spice of life, and we’ve shown it’s possible to be respectful of one another.” Kirk was presented with a plaque and heartfelt thanks expressed by board president Robert Risko.
