Services for John Baker, 32, Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gene Bishop officiating.

Burial will follow in Becks Chapel Cemetery.

 Mr. Baker died Friday, June 14, 2013 in LaRue.

He was born March 28, 1981 in Athens. His parents are Harold Lynn and Kelly Robin Baker Paul. John attended LaPoynor High School and was a lifelong resident of Athens. He loved raising

TxDOT update for June 17-21

TxDOT UPDATE for coming week:

Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to perform seal coat operations on FM 2636 near Malakoff.

Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic.

Also in Athens, crews are scheduled to perform striping operations for the recent work performed on the Athens Square during the week of June 24.

“Last Romance” gets second weekend

The ETMC Athens Auxiliary recently held its annual awards luncheon honoring the dozens of men and women who volunteer their time and talents.

“We appreciate you so much,” ETMC Administrator Pat Wallace told the gathered auxiliary members. “There’s so much all of you do that is not just relegated to the hospital environment. You serve our hospital and our community.”

Auxiliary President Ruth Lang announced Leah Walker and Stacey Callaway as recipients of auxiliary nursing scholarships. “You’ve had a hand in helping these two women pursue their dreams,” she told her fellow volunteers. “And now we can watch them do it.”

Saturday we will open at 10 a.m. and will close at 3 p.m., Saturday will be 1/2 off all that remains.

All funds are to help an Athens High School student to travel to Spain, France and Italy with the art teachers from AHS. This is a great opportunity for the student, so please stop by and help out.
