On Tuesday, March 31, at approximately 1 p.m., four deputies from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office drove to 3429 CR 4305 near Larue to serve a felony Evading Arrest or Detention warrant on Jamie Lawrence Meador, 30, of Brownsboro.

On arrival, deputies observed Meador on a four-wheeler in the yard of the property. As a uniformed deputy approached Meador, Meador grabbed an AR 15 rifle from the four-wheeler and fired at one of the deputies. Two deputies returned fire striking Meador multiple times.

Deputies disarmed Meador (who was armed with an additional semiautomatic pistol) and took him into custody. Meador was also found to be in possession of marijuana and suspected methamphetamine. Continue reading “Brownsboro Man Charged With Attempted Capital Murder”

TxDOT Update – Week of March 23

Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews in Athens continue to address drainage issues around the county. They are also repairing edges from Malakoff toward Payne Springs.

Big Creek Construction continues slope work and seeding on the FM 317 widening project from FM 314 to FM 607. Expect lane closures.

Athens Baseball and Softball Games Cancelled

Softball – will play in Athens Saturday (weather permitting) against Ferris with JV starting at noon and varsity at 2 p.m.

Varsity baseball will play Ferris in Athens Saturday (weather permitting) at 3 p.m.

Both JV White against Crandall (Here) and JV Maroon at Crandall scheduled Saturday have been cancelled. They will be rescheduled at a later date.

Henderson County Arts Council Looks For Board Members

Henderson County Arts Council Vice-President Dr. Marylyn Wright is heading a committee to search for four new board members designated from the eastern and western sides of Henderson County.

Eastern Henderson County is comprised of areas around Murchison, Larue, Poyner, Brownsboro, and Chandler. The western side would include areas in or surrounding the cities of Trinidad, Malakoff, Tool, Seven Points, Gun Barrel City, Mabank, and Eustace. TVCC Wins One, Loses One

TVCC earned a split at the NJCAA national basketball tournaments in Kansas yesterday.

The TVCC Lady Cardinals advanced to the Elite Eight round of the NJCAA national basketball tournament with a 63-49 win over Wallace State.

The TVCC Cardinals lost to Hutchison, 73-61. With the loss, the Cardinal season comes to a close with a 28-5 record.
