Obituary: James ‘Pat’ O’Brien

O'Brien,Memorial services for James “Pat” O’Brien 67, of Athens, Texas are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Brother Joey Wallace officiating.

Mr. O’Brien passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 in Athens, Texas.

James Patrick O’Brien was born November 21, 1947 in San Antonio, Texas the son of James P. O’Brien and Mary O’Brien. Pat was in the Telecom business for over 40 years eventually becoming the installation supervisor for the state of Texas before retiring from Century Link. He was a collector of die cast model trains, planes, and cars; enjoyed wood working and just loving life. Athens FFA – Brownsboro FFA Truck Drive Challenge

Both the Athens FFA and Brownsboro FFA chapters, in conjunction with Elder Dodge, will be having a “The Next Crop” Ram Truck Ride and Drive event on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The two chapters will be in direct competition for the number of test drives taken.

For each test drive that is taken in the name of either FFA, a $20 donation will be made to that local chapter.

Come out, support FFA members, and test drive a Ram Truck.

Officer who lost home says thank you for community support

APD logoAthens Police Office Jonathan Hutchison lost his home to a fire in August. Wednesday, Sept. 2, he sent the following letter to Henderson County Now and also posted it on the City of Athens Facebook page:

“I would like to take a moment to express my sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the community for helping my family and I recover from our home burning during the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 13th. Although we escaped without injuries, we lost our home and all of our possessions in the fire.
Almost instantly, support and assistance began pouring in from individuals, groups, and businesses. The magnitude of people offering aid was overwhelming and humbling. With their help, we have begun rebuilding our lives and preparing to move forward.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness in our time of need.”
