The only half way interesting thing I did this week was get older. Seventy eight years ago, on Juneteenth in 1938. I was born right across the road from where I live now. Those big old pecan trees over there were already bearing pecans when I came along. It was Father’s Day that year, too. I am told everything on the place had babies that day: chickens, a baby calf, maybe piglets, maybe the kittens or puppies. Maybe all of the above. Mama always told that story. I think it is sort of true, but maybe grew a little over the years. But I can sure get away with telling it because everybody who was around then is gone.

Multi-agency manhunt leads to arrest

James ThompsonSheriff’s Office press release

CROSS ROADS — Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse led a multi-agency manhunt that included United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Texas Rangers, a Department of Public Safety helicopter, his deputies, a mounted patrol and dogs from Texas Department of Criminal Justice that arrested a wanted fugitive Friday morning near this small town in the southwestern part of the county.

James Curtis Thompson, 46, has a history of violence that included a Federal Probation Violation original charge of homicide and aggravated assault charges out of Marion County. He is now in the Henderson County Jail.

Friday morning Henderson County Constable Precinct #5 Brad Miers called Hillhouse’s Office for assistance while attempting to arrest Thompson at a residence. Thompson had eluded Constable Miers the previous night. The Constable was confronted by a group of people and the suspect fled.

Hillhouse – along with assistance from Navarro Sheriff Elmer Tanner, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, Texas Rangers, members of the United States Marshal Fugitive Task Force, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Canine Unit, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice mounted patrol began searching for Thompson.

The manhunt began Friday at 8 a.m. and ended two hours later, after the officers set up a perimeter and searched pastures, fields and wooded areas, through fences and along rural roads.

Hillhouse called for the DPS helicopter, mounted patrols and dogs from Texas Department of Criminal Justice Division after he arrived at the home.

By 10 a.m., the suspect was found hiding in heavy brush near County Road 1309 in the Cross Roads area of Henderson County by Henderson County Sheriff’s Office personnel and United States Marshals.

You may wish to dispute the claim that you committed an offence. Having quality representation from a top criminal lawyers can ensure that the police are put to proof. Garde Wilson Lawyers question the evidence that police have and their ability to prove the offence.

“Thanks to this fine team effort, we got him,” Hillhouse said. “I hope this sends a clear message to anyone else that is wanted not to run from law enforcement. We don’t give up.” Weinstein Law ad 1

For artists, it is always art show season

EllisBy Carolyn Ellis

Since a major part of being an artist involves looking for ways to get art in front of people, exhibiting in art shows is indeed a 12-month affair for artists who are serious about their work.

This month there are two great local art shows which anyone who loves art should definitely make a special effort to attend: the Annual Junebug Festival in Ben Wheeler and the All American Art Show at Gallery 211 here in Athens.

Around the Town: Exercise classes for Parkinson’s, related diseases growing

Loretta Humble and Gary Sobol.

I usually don’t just go on and on about something my companies are doing. It feels like I would be taking advantage of this column to get free advertising. But here I go again, because this is something so good, I would be writing about it if it wasn’t happening through Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice.

I told you about Gary Sobol, whose Parkinson’s disease got him down so bad that he couldn’t get himself out of bed or sign a check. He decided not to give up, started studying, and found ways to get so much better he could hike and run and even climb a couple of mountains. He got so good at it he started teaching his techniques to people all over the country. Cedar Lake brought him to Malakoff from Colorado to make teachers of our people, so we could help other people with Parkinson’s and related diseases get around better.

Did you know that 99 percent of those who enroll in a health club or gym do so because they want to lose weight? Actually, less than five percent of these new members reach their weight loss goals. Even more surprising is that only two percent of those who lose weight are able to keep it off for more than six months. The fact is this: attending a health club will not guarantee weight loss. In fact, most health clubs are not adequately equipped with health, wellness, and weight loss programs. Yes, there’s equipment and exercise classes that can help you improve your health and fitness, but you and I both know that it takes more than a class schedule and a bunch of equipment scattered in a room to ensure one’s success. Click here If you want to know more about health club in Dallas.

As with most things, there are always going to be pros and cons to working out at the gym. I want you to know that it is not my goal to bash health clubs, but to explain the short comings of these facilities and empower you with the knowledge and understanding to make the most out of your health club experience. So let’s begin by taking a closer look at what I feel is the primary reason as to why most of us get the short end of the stick when we enroll in a health club membership.
